Helpful Tips For Selecting An RV Rental For Your Vacation

Posted on: 12 July 2021

If you would like to rent an RV for the first time for a new type of vacationing experience, there are a number of things to consider to help you select the right RV for you and your party. First, decide where your ultimate destination will be and if you will stop at any other RV parks and campgrounds along the way. The reason this is important is because you want to make sure you choose an RV that you won't have any issues driving and parking, based solely on the roadways you'll be traveling on and the campgrounds you'll be staying in. Here are some additional things you'll need to consider

What Size & Weight Can You Safely Handle?

Most states require a commercial driver's license for vehicles larger than 26,000 pounds, which are the larger and heavier RVs that resemble large transit buses. For a first-time RV renter, your safest bet is to go with the smaller, drivable RVs, at least until you feel comfortable navigating a larger vehicle than you are used to driving. You'll also want to consider the roadways you'll be driving and whether or not you will feel safe traversing mountainous streets and going up and down steep hills, for example, or driving through heavy rush-hour traffic in large cities.

The height of the RV is also important to consider. Compare the height to the route you have planned. Make sure you check out all the tunnels, overpasses, and bridges to ensure that the top of the RV will fit through. Otherwise, you'll risk damaging the RV and end up paying the rental agency a hefty fee for the damage.

Are Amenities Included in the RV Rental?

Some RV rentals come fully stocked on everything you need to make it your home away from home during your rental period yet some do not. Determine if the RV rental agency provides items such as kitchen utensils, pots and pans, dishes and silverware, and bedding and towels. If they do, are there any additional fees for general housekeeping, intense cleaning, and/or replacing any missing items?

You'll also need to consider if the destination has any amenities so you can select the RV rental that will work best for you. For example, would you prefer showering in the RV rental or in the campground's shower room? If the campground site is bare, does the RV have chairs in the storage compartment that can be taken outside?
